WAITAKI RACES. Sbcond Day, Ebiday, Octobke 3. The following report of the second day's races at Duntroon is taken from the " North Otago Times," our own report having unaccountably miscarried— Handicap Htjbdlb Rack of 50 sovs; distance, 2 miles, over eight flights of hurdles, 3ft. 3in. high; nomination, £1; acceptance, -El. Mr P. Butler's Te Whetu, aged, list (A., Lyford) 1 Mr J. H. Lunn's b g Robin Hood, aged, 9st (Clifford) 2 Mr H. Schluter's b g Little John, 5 yrs, 83t 71b, carried 9st lib (Robinson) S Mr W. After a false start, the starter succeeded in despatching his charges very evenly, and the first hurdle was taken in the following order— Robin Hood, Romance, Loyalty, and To Whetu, Little John being the last to negotiate the obstruction; the same order was observed until after the third hurdle, when the favorite improved his position, displacing Romance. The horses were jumping in good style, but it was seen at this point of the race that the chesnut horse had the race in hand. Te Whetu crept up to Loyalty, who was leading, and Robin Hood. At the hurdle opposite the stand the three named were all in a cluster, but after passing this the boy on Little John commenced to wake him up. He gradually answered to the call, and, passing Romance and Loyalty, at the last hurdle was lying third, the whole of the field being well together. At the turn into the straight the favorite led, and won hands down by about three lengths, Little John being the same distance behind Robin Hood. Time —4 min. 20 sees.

A bad start was effected, Chancellor at once rushing off at the head of affairs, with Maritana second, and Rangitira last. The latter was hard held the first mile, as was also the mare. At the turn past the stand the second time Maritana passed the brown horse, and Rangitira being let out left Chancellor in the rear. This order was maintained throughout the remainder of the race, and though Rangitira made a desperate effort, he could not get near the mare. Wattie, sitting quite still on the latter, landed another stake for her owner. Chancellor died away, and was not persevered with. Time —3min. 4isec. A fair start was made, and York at once assumed the premier position, with Pinfire second, Unknown third, and the little colt last. The Otago cbesnut kept the lead, although Finfire tried hard to displace him. Libeller getting his head about half a mile from home changed places with Unknown. At this time the whole of the horses were so close together that a sheet would have covered them. Notwithstanding the determined efforts made by Pinfire to reach York, he was unable to catoh the Otago representative who won a fast race by about a length and'a half, Libeller being third, about three lengths in the rear of Pinfire. Time—2min. Bsec. Consolation Handicap of 25 aovs; distance, 1 mile. Mr T. C. Hill's Unknown, 7at 71ba (Rudings) 1 Mr Goodman's Chancellor, 9st (T. Allan) 2 Mr W.
