GENTLEMEN, — I have to express my very great gratification at your exceedingly flattering requisition that I should allow myself to be placed in nomination as a candidate for the high office of Mayor of this city. Your kindly reference to any services I have been enabled to render dnring my connection with the City Council, is especially pleasing. As the only member of the Council of last year now connected with the Corporation who has not already filled the position as Mayor, I have less hesitation in complying with your reque3t, it being generally desirable that new men should In thanking you again for your expression of confidenco and esteem, I have only to say that, if elected by tho citizens, I shall do my best to maintain the name of the good city, and strive to advance its interests to the utmost of my ability.
