CHRISTCHURCH. Fbiday, Octobbb 3. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Dbdhk amd Disobdbbly.—Two women were fined respectively 5s and 20s, and one man 20s. Labcbnt. —Thomas Henry Reed was charged with stealing two saddles, two pair of'girths, two pair of’stirrup leathers, two pair stirrup irons, two pair rosettes, two Liverpool carriage bits, two pieces of sponge, two fancy head pieces, one body brush, one pair spurs, one double bridle, and one snaffle bit, the property of Jonathan Bamshaw, The accused had previously been dealt with on a similar charge some week or two back, and Sergeant Morice now stated that the present charge was brought against Reed for the purpose of identifying other [ property belonging to Mr Barnshaw which had been stolen about the same time as the articles for which the accused had already been brought up. This course had been adopted, as it was necessary to establish the fact that the articles had been stolen to enable oth>r charges to be proceeded with against certain parties for receiving the goods knowing them to be stolen. The boy pleadeded guUty, and Mr Eamshaw identified the articles produced in Court as his property, The case was adjourned until 3 p.m. LYTTELTON. Fbidat, October 3, [Before Joseph Beswick, Esq., B.M.] Absent Without Leave. Duncan Thompson was presented for being absent without leave from the ship Crusader on Friday morning. Captain Davies said he did not wish to press the case. The accused was ordered on board. Civil Case.—Do Costa Estate v Mayze ; Mr Nalder appeared for the defendant ; Mr Neck, for the plaintsff, not appearing to argue the case plaintiff was nonsuited with cost*. Morgan V. R. Owen, claim £lO 11s 6d ; judgment for plaintiff. Teague v Dransfield, claim £2 18s, judgment summons; order granted.
