GREYISM AND LIBERALISM.

It is interesting (says the “ Timara Herald”), under the present circumstances, to call to mind the promises made by sundry candidates 'whilst on the hustings, that they would “respectfully request Sir George Grey to resign,” end that they would support any other leader who would adopt the liberal measures* Sir Geo* Grey ]■ obviously at this moment the only

obstruction to the passage of the liberal measures. The leader of the Opposition has pledged himself and his party, who are in a majority in the House, to adopt those measures, at d the Hon. John Hall’s pledges differ from Sir George Grey's in that they can bo confidently depended on. Yet we do not hear of Sir George Grey being “ respectfully requested to resign,” nor of these great champions of the liberal measures giving their support to the only leader who can carry them out. What intrigues may be going on within the Government party we do not know, but wo do know that men who have promised the electors to sever themselves from Sir Geo. Grey and to follow anyone else who will adopt the liberal programme, are still clinging closely to Sir George Grey long after all chance of his carrying those measures has passed away. We always were convinced that Greyism and Liberalism—that is to say the Liberalism of the hnslings—were one and the same thing, and the events of the last week have proved beyond doubt that such is the case.
