VITAL STATISTICS.
The vital statistics in fifteen boroughs of of the colony for the month of August, 1879, are as follows :
The deaths from zymotic diseases, which, in July had materially decreased, showed a still further decrease in August. Only one death from typhoid fever occurred during the month : it took place in Christchurch, where, also, the only deaths from dysentery or diarrhoea (2) and diphtheria (2) were recorded. Dunedin had all the deaths (6) from whooping cough, and Wellington enjoys the satisfactory distinction of being without a single death from any of these diseases.
