RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening at the usual hour. Present—The Mayor (Mr Blackett), Cra. Burt, Eobinaon, Johnston, Good Stephens, Boyd, Luxton, and Ivory. Letters were read—Prom Mr M. H. Browne secretary Fire Brigade, asking to have the Mayor appointed chief fire inspector, and Superintendent Gulliver sub-inspector for the borough. As Mr Lilly’s resignation as fire inspector had not come to-hand the consideration of this letter was deferred. From Mr B. Denham, Eegistrar of Deeda, asking for a copy of the borough map for official use. The Council decided to supply the necessary information. Prom the Ven. Archdeacon of Bangiora, in reference to a case for aid. It was resolved that Ora. Good and Boyd report thereon. Or. Boyd reported on a previous application, which was favorably considered. It was resolved—“ That the surveyor take cross sections of Victoria street and report at next meeting on cost of formation and shingling. The question of the bridge in Bing street was referred to the works committee. It was stated that Mr Pemberton had handed in the map as completed, and the
committee was requested to examine and pass same. It was resolved to rescind the resolution to form Perceval street footpath on east side, and form the street first. In seven cases rates were remitted to persons not in a position to pay same. It was resolved that the boulders on Ashley road bo carted away and broken by the eccasional men, 2s 3d per yard to be allowed for the work. It was resolved to invite fresh applications for office accommodation, The balance in Bank to the credit of the Council was reported to be £230 los 7d. Accounts, £B4 3s 6d, were passed. After passing a number of minor matters, the Council adjourned. At a special meeting subsequently held, it was resolved—“ That a bj’lnw be made to meet the question of forming footpaths, owners of property abuting thereon to pay part of cost of kerbing, channelling, and special formation.”
