CRICKET AT ASHBURTON.

A meeting of cricketers, convened by advertisement, was held at Quid’s Commercial Hotel, at two o’clock on Saturday afternoon. About a dozen fentlemen were present, and Mr J. E. larria was voted to the chair. The chairman briefly explained that the object of the meeting was to form a Cricketing Association. He then read a scheme for its establishment ■which had been prepared by gentlemen taking an interest in tho matter. After some discussion, Mr S. Saunders proposed, and Mr A. Fooks seconded, the following resolution, which was carried unanimously—“ That it is desirable to form a Cricket Association for the Borough of Ashburton, with the object of promoting cricketing interests within the borough, and to take charge of the ground recently granted by the Domain Board. It was proposed by Mr Douglas, seconded by Mr G. Andrews, and carried—“ That clubs having fifteen or more playing members be eligible for association.” It was proposed by Mr O. Andrews, seconded by Mr J. Saunders, and carried—“ That three members shall be appointed by each associated club to form the committee of the association.” Mr Broadbelt proposed, and Mr Hodder seconded the following resolution, which was carried—“ That the committee be at once elected, and requested to draw up draft rules for the asso-

oiation, to be submitted to a general meeting on Friday evening next.” Some discussion followed on cricket matters generally, during which it transpired that the meeting called for last Wednesday evening had been attended by a number of gentlemen from each club, but owing to a misunderstanding in reference to the meeting room, they had missed one another.
