UNITED CANTERBURY CRICKET CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the United Canterbury Cricket Club was held at the Commercial Hotel on Tuesday, Mr Stevens in the chair. There were about twenty members present. The secretary having read the minutes of the previous meeting, the balance sheet was submitted, and showed that during the year there had been a saving of £4O, a balance sheet of £2O having been cleared off and £2O invested in material for the club. The statement, on the motion of Mr Ollivier, was adopted. The following were elected members for the ensuing year :—President, Mr H, P. Lance ; Vice-President, Mr Stevens; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Hartmann; Committee, Messrs Corfe, Ollivier, Socretan, Condell, Wilson, Ashby, and Million. Rule 9 was amended so os to include the president an ex officio member of committee. A discussion was raised regarding the necessity of having a captain to arrange non-association matches, who should also be a member of the committee, and Mr Nalder was appointed to that position. Messrs Million and Wilson were appointed delegates to the Association. The Secretary remarked that the club was in a good financial condition, but urged members being more prompt in tho payment of their subscriptions, and not placing the treasurer in the unpleasant position of a debt collector. He also pointed out the inconvenience caused through members not turning up to country matches for which their names had been selected. The club delegates were requested to bring under the notice of the association the operation of rule 7 of the association, with a view to suspend it until it can be repealed. Mr Ollivier suggested that more nets should be purchased. At present they had three, and these were not sufficient to enable a general practice of members to be held as often as was desirable. The Secretary remarked that it was not so much a question of having nets but one of having pitches. The captain was requested to arrange for holding matches, and votes of thanks to tho secretary and treasurer, retiring committee, and the chairman, concluded the proceedings.
