conraging the rebels at Kashgar. China is quickly preparing for war, and has increased its armament, forts, and ships. General Grant, Governor Hennessy, and other visitors are going to Yokohama. The populace there protests against the Government spending money for their reception. It is reported at Amoy that 'the Chinese Emperor and Empress have died at Pekin.
The cholera is very severe in parts. In Japan, several vessels are loading for various ports. Many thousand packages of tea are for Australia. THE EXHIBITION - .
It is feared that the rainfall will interfere with the success of the opening of tho Exhibition.
SYDNEY, September 15. Arrived —Ringarooma from New Zealand. Tho Governors of Victoria and Tasmania with their private secretaries arrived to-day. The Exhibition buildings are completed. Tho opening ceremony takes place on Wednesday, and promises to he a grand spectacle. MELBOURNE, September 15.
The Government have signed the convention with the Peninsular and Oriental Company providing for the discontinuance of the Southampton mail. It is intended to prosecute the Directors and Manager of the Provincial and Suburban Bank for conspiracy.
