OOLLINGWOOD AND WAKATIPU ELECTIONS. [By Teleqbaph] NELSON, September 12. There is a hitch over the Oollingwood election. The deputy returning officer at one of the polling booths omitted to stamp the ballot papers, and the chief returning officer, hearing of this, has announced his intention of officially declaring Mr Huddleston, the second on the poll, as duly elected. Mr Gibbs has come over to Nelson and consulted lawyers, and the opinion of three legal firms is that the returning officer must declare Mr Gibbs elected. This opinion has been despatched by spetial messenger, there being no telegraph to Oollingwood. DUNEDIN, September 12. The numbers were as already telegraphed. Dr. Wallis, in his speech, said, if the question came up again, he would vote against the Maori dual vote, even at the risk of losing his seat. Both Dr. Wallis and Mr Hurst repeated a declaration of their determination to support Sir George Grey. NAPIER, September 13. The scrutiny Into the polling at Napier election demanded by Mr Maney was made to-day by the Returning Officer in presence of his deputies and scrutineers. The chief and deputy returning officers’ rolls were closely examined, with the exception of the Wairoa roll, which has not yet come to hand, and no case of duplication or personation was discovered. The only thing found was that (four Maori lads had voted, though for which side of course is not known. They were really on the roll, and being there, no objection could he raised to their voting. WELLINGTON, September 12. It is said that at the declaration of the poll for the Hutt district, a protest will be lodged against the return of Mr Mason, on the ground of alleged illegal proceedings. It is stated also that the election is to be petitioned against on various grounds. TIMARU, September 12. It is stated on good authority that Mr Feldwick will not contest the Thames seat in place of Sir G. Grey. FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS IN CANTERBURY.
