The result of tho polling for Auckland city ■east is:— Speight 371 Clarke 363 There were three informal votes. Speight was carried shoulder high by his supporters. Both candidates made speeches thanking their supporters, and each called for cheers for his opponent. / NAPIER, September 10. The polling for Clive election resulted as f olI lows:— •Ormond 505 Sheehan 360 Mr Sheehan received almost a block vote • from theMSatives, of whom 180 are on the ' Olive roll. It is stated if Sir George Grey is returned for Ohrißtohurch Mr Feldwick will be made • Government nominee for the Thames, and failing that he is to have a seat in the Upper : Houao. WELLINGTON, September 10. Mr Hutchison is very much elated at being returned. Sir Geo. Grey has promised to make him Minister of Education. It is reported that an attempt will be made to unseat Mr Johnston on the ground of bribery. Mr Halcombe is being egged on by the Government in hopes of a new election. The Hinemoa's electioneering trip was too much for her. She now lies at the wharf with two boiler plates cracked. She had been ao pushed that there was not time properly to attend to her, and now her boiler has to be overhauled and repaired. She was in such a bad Btate that Sir George dare not risk going down in her, and had to condescend to be a. passenger on board the Penguin. All this is •kept very quiet, the local papers saying nothing is the mattor with the Hinemoa.
