Since that period I haveendeavored, by a strict attention to duty and a conscientious exercise of the power® and authorities conveyed, to prove myself worthy of the honor then bestowed. Daring the past year the difficulties of a member of your Council have been of a somewhat arduous and trying cllygcter, nevertheless I have sought to the "best of my ability to forward your interests, and maintain the reputation of the City. As Christchurch has now been divided into Wards, I am precluded from offering myself again to the whole constituency by whom I was orginially returned.
