COMIC OPERA.

The production of “The Sorcerer” by Messrs Crain and Harding’s company last night was a complete succbes from first to last. The performance of “ The Sorcerer” gave an opportunity for the display of the musical and histrionic talents of the other ladies of the company as well as Mias Leaf, and they are to be congratulated upon their success. Miss Leaf sang and acted excellently throughout. In the ballad “ Happy young heart” in the first act she was warmly applauded. In the second act she has a very pretty ballad, “ It was my darling’s wish,” which was rendered most artistically. Her voice was also heard to great advantage in the quintette “ I rejoice.” Miss Hunter in the part of Constance both sang and actsd very well indeed. She gave the song in the first act “ When he is here” with much expression. Miss Heath deserves a word of praise for the admirable manner in which she impersonated the aged pew-opener. The little stie had to do in Hebe was done so well as to show that she was capable of better things, and last night placed this beyond doubt, as she sang and acted admirably. Miss Teague, who played Lady Sangazure, has a fine contralto voice, but nervousness prevented her giving it full scope. As Dr. Daly, Mr Biccardi was inimitable. His make-up and singing throughout were perfect, and evoked the heartiest enthusiasm. He received a double encore for his song in the second act, which is irresistibly funny. Mr Hodson was good as the Sorcerer, and Messrs Crain and Harding in their respective parts rendered their music artistically. The concerted music was very well rendered, especially the fir ale to the first act and a quintette in the second, which was encored. Professor Hughes deserves a word of praise for his violin obligato, and the orchestra generally, also, for their share of a most successful performance. “ The Sorcerer’ will be repeated this evening.
