CORRESPONDENCE.
SIR GEORGE GREY AND HOME RULE.
To the Editor of tha “ Olohe.”
Bib, —Sir George Gr.y, in his speeches some time ago, was advocating the severance of this country from the British Empire. I have not the -lightest doubt Sir George Grey is an Irish Homo Ruler.
Home Rule may be very good to a certain extent. I believe in local government myself, but I fail to see what benefit is to be gained by such an extreme measure as Sir George proposes, England has given this country power to make her own laws, and to conduct her own internal affairs, and more than that, she has lent her the money to do it with. I would like Sir George to explain the reason why he would sever the link that binds us to that grand Empire on which the sun never sets. Someone put the question to Mr Richardson at his Addington meeting, “ Would you support Sir George Grey in carrying out that measure ?” The rounds ot applause that greeted Mr Richardson’s answer is sufficient proof that this country is not to be endangered by any pft scheme of Sir George Grey. I notice during his stumping tour Sir George has been very careful not to mention this subject. No doubt he is well aware that if ho had talked such nonsense on the hustings what a storm lie would get about his ears.
Yours, ic., LOYALTY.
