The.east as.a whole last night was scarcely .-as iporfoct as when the comedy was played at tlhc Theatre JEtoyal, though some of the <eharaottts by r.o means suffered by comysrjjon. Mr .G. W. Chaplin gave agraphia aai hucacjrous representation of Cheviot Hill, the impressionable gentleman who falle in love with and proposes to every lady he meets. The romantic Belinda found an admirable representative in Miss Bose Osborne, the laughable mock riieroio language of the part being given with a tolemn intensity that was irresistibly funny. Mr Lawrence as Belvawney suffered by ooajparison with Mr O'Orsay Ogden. Mr liaohlan McGowan was thoroughly at home as Angus Mactlister, his dialect and acting being equally excellent. Miss L»na Edwin made a very .captivating Maggie McFurlane, but more facility with the langaage spoken Borth of the Twtad would have given a greater air of vraisemblancc to the part. Lilly Marsh was pretty and piquante as Minnie Symperson, and her sister, Mies May Marsh, was as saucy and pert as a im ?. r j ■oubrette generally is on tho stage, and so did justice to the character of Parker. Mrs McGowan made the most of the small part of Mrs Macfarlane, and the same may be said of Mr Mowry as Major Mucgillicuddy. ThesoreamiDg faroe, " Tittum's First Race," with Mr Bland Holt a* Tittums, Mr L. McGowan as Aid arm an Slowcoach, and Miss Lena Edwin as Mrs Tittums, the rest of the characters being well sustained by the compauy brought an excellent night's entertainment to a close.
