John Brown (originally charged with stabbing), against the boatswain, Bobert London, for unlawfully wounding. Mr Mansford, having both casss bsfore him, sentenced the sailmaker to two months’ imprisonment with hard labor, and the boatswain to 40s fine or twelve days’ imprisonment. The Thistle Masonic Lodge, Scotch constitution, was opened at Masterton to-night. There was a large attendance of Wellington brethren.

Sir George Grey will leave Onehunga on Friday next for Lyttelton direct. DUNEDIN, September 2, The Nelson immigrants are going off slowly. The quarterly Licensing Court sat to-day. An intimation was given that night licenses in the suburbs would probably be withdrawn. John Brennan, sentenced to penal servitude for life for assaulting a girl at Invercargill, died in Dunedin Gaol this morning of heart disease.

TIMAEU, September 2. A verdict of “ Aocideutal death ” was returned at the inquest on the bodies of Smith and Morrison, who died in the enow at Burke’s Pass. O. W. Wool was sentenced to three months’ to-day for fraudulent bankruptcy.
