CEMETERY BOARD.
A meeting of this Poird was held at 3 p.m. yeat.rday. Present: Messrs J. P. Jameson (chairman), J. Anderson, Revs. C. Fraser and H. O. M. Watson. A letter was read from the Rev. W. Morloy resigning his seat on the Board on tho grourd of his removal to Auckland. The resignation was accepted, and tho chairman wag requested to communicate with the Wesleyan body as to their nominating some one to fill Mr Morley’s place, A letter was read from the secretary to tho Selwyn County Council, asking what steps had been taken to c irry out tho promise made to the Council by the Board to provide a cemetery for the western suburbs of Christchurch. The Bov. O. Fraser advocated the acquiring of the site on the Lincoln road, which if drained would, he believed, be perfectly dry. The chairman said that he had a report from another person who had examined the land, and who said that the site would be unsuitable, as it was very wet indeed. He would read the report. [Read.] After some discussion, the Rev. H. O. M. Watson moved —“ That the chairman, Rev. O. Fraser, and Mr Anderson bo a sub-committee to again inspect the site in company with the persons making the report.” The chairman said he thought they should make enquiries for another site, as they had entered into a contract with tho Selwyn County Council to provide a cemetery for the western suburbs of Christchurch, and they would have to do so. Mr Anderson said that they had already gone over the ground, and more than that they had made enquiries as to any land in the neighbourhood which might be available. Rev. Mr Watson said that he would be willing to add to his resolution that tho subcommittee be requested to obtain information as to any other land available in the district. Mr Anderson seconded the motion, which was agreed to, it being understood that the subcommittee reply to the Selwyn County Council that the Board are considering the matter. Tho chairman reported that the fencing at the central cemetery was complete, and tho work had been done in a most satisfactory way. Rev. 0. Fraser moved —“ That the chairman and treasurer be requested to examine the account for fencing, and, if found correct, to discharge the same.” Rev. H. O. M. Watson seconded the motion, which was carried. It was resolved that some planting be done in the shape of poplar stakes, and some pinna insignia and macrocarpa. After the transaction of soma routine business the Board adjourned.
