REV. C. FRASER AT THE GAIETY THEATRE.
Ta the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —I see Mr Fraser attempted last night to defend his countryman Mr Macandrew in his action in connection with the removal of the workshops from Ohristchurch to Dunedin. Mr Fraser says—“lt was a pity that the question of the railway centre had been brought into the political field at the time of a contested election, and it was to the credit of Mr Macandrew that rather than pander to Dunedin on this question he had withdrawn to another constituency. That was a safe* guard as to Mr Macandrew’s fair dealing in the future.” (Cheers.) Mr Fraser ought not to deliberately attempt to mislead the public hero. His vocation should lead him to act in the opposite direction. Mr Fraser, as one of the leading spirits of the Reform Association, must know that Mr Macandrew has withdrawn from Dunedin, because he has not the ghost of a chance of ever being returned again for that city, and moreover that he has gone to Port Chalmers because he thinks he can rely upon the votes of the large body of railway employes there and that these votes will be secured mainly on the ground that he is known to bo in favor of the large extension of the workshops at Port Chalmers to the detriment of Christchurch. Mr Fraser ought to be ashamed of giving his support to such a disgraceful use of his ministerial power to secure electioneering support. Yours, &0., ELECTOR.
