RUSH EAGER TO ROW AGAIN.
[“Town and Country.”]
It was rumoured in Sydney recently that Mr Michael Hush, the famous Clarence sculler, still dissatisfied with the conditions under which he met both Trickett and Laycock, was eager to meet either of them again on the Parramatta River. It was also stated that he had written to England for two of the heat boats. To ascertain the truth, we telegraphed to Mr Rush, and obtained from him a prompt reply. He states his willingness to meet the winner of the August contest at the International Balmain Regatta. He will then row either Trickett or Laycock, or both, provided the Balmain regatta committee give the prize announced by them a few months ago. On receipt of his reply we informed Mr Rush that the Balmain committee had made no change in their programme, and further, that they had no intention of doing so. Hence there is every prospect of another match, in which the Northern man will finally do battle for the Clarence. There is a strong disposition among many Sydney sportsmen to support Rush, but no steps are likely to be taken in the matter till after the contest between Trickett and Laycock has come off.
