Mails close at tho Chief Post Offleo for the f jlloTTing places (subject to necessary alterations) under TUESDAY, AUGUST 26. For the United. Kingdom, Continent of Europe, via Brindisi and Southampton (for correspondence addressed per either of these routes only), India, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Otago, &c., per Arawata. Ordinary letters, at 1 p.m. Eat© fee letters, at 1.45 p.m. Books and newspapers, at 12 noon. Registered letters, at 12 noon. Money orders at 12 noon. Guard's van, 2.40 p.m. train. The mail via Brindisi will be due in London on October 20th, and tho mail via Southampton on October 27th. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27. Fer the United Kingdom (via Brindisi and Southampton), Anstralia, &c., per express train to connect with s.s. Arawata at the Bluff, at 7.30 a.m. . Letters hearing a late fee of 2d may be posted in the travelling post office attached to the express train on 27th inst. For Northern ports per Albion. The next mail for the United Kingdom via San Francisco will be ,closed at on September 12tb, and will be duo in London on October 28th. Notice. —Only town rate of postage (Id per halfounce) is charged on letters posted in Christchurch, Sydenham, or suburban receiving boxes, for delivery by local letter carriers throughout these boroughs or suburbs. A pillar receiving box has been erected at the junction of Victoria and Durham streets. The hours of clearance are 5.30 a.m., 11.30 a.m., and 4.30 p.m. daily. SYDNEY J. DICK, Chief Postmaster.
