The barque Garstang was towed out on Saturday, and anchored in the stream prior to sailing for an American barque, with part cargo for Lyttelton, arrived at Port Chalmers from New Tork last Wednesday. She loft Now York M The 3 Elmiranda cleared at New York Jnna 24th for Duuodin and this port. . - The s.s. Wakatipu, Captain Wheeler, arrived on Saturday from Sydney and Wellington. She loft Sydney at 1 p.m. on the 16th, encountered westerly winds to the 18th. then southerly squalls, followed hy moderate weather to arrival at Wellington at 1 p.m. on tho 21st, and along the coast to arrival here. In turning short at the entrance to tho bay coming in the steamer took the mud. It was low water at tho time, and though an effort was mace to pull tho steamer oil with the aid of the s.s. Maori it>.*>/ futile, the Wakatipu having to remain untilth ' do flowed. A little inconvenience resulted to thep .seugers, they having to land in boats in place of stopping directly on to the wharf, but with this exception, and a tnfle of delay to the agent in despatching her, the stoppage was of no moment. The vessel proceeded on her way southward about 11 p.m. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Pout Ciiai/mers, August 25. Arrived—Blair Drummond, 90 days from London with 62 passengers and 2000 tons of cargo, 1200 tons being railway iron consigned to tho Now Zealand Shipping Company. She ’experienced very poor trades and an almost total absence of westerlies while running down her easting. a N.E. gale, which drove her down to latitude 55 Sailed—Thomas Stephen, ship for Guam.
