PROMISING GEORGE. Oome workmen listen unto me, A story I'll relate, About a blarnying gentleman, Who has a largo estate. Who came into power, with promises many To dock Ministers' screws to the uttermost penny, But when once in office refused to yield any? Promising George. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squatters, and farmers are we, But all oE us one in our distrust of thee, Promising George. Whotalkod of corruption in others, my men, And said what he'd do when in office, and then Gave thousands a year for Ananias's pen ? Promising George. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squatters, and farmers are we, But all of us one in our distrust of thee, Promising George. Who denounces the rich, and butters the poor, (Though he himself has a pretty good store) Then gave to Jim Larnaeh two thousand and more ? Promising George. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squatters, and farmers are wo, But all cf us one in our distrust of thee, Promising George. Who talks, and who talks of the poor working man, And when winter was cold and children were wan, Refused us a shilling for tho breaking of stone ? Promising George. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squatters, and farmers are wc, But all of us one in our distrust of thee, Promising George. Who says he's the working man's friend, and then say, When tho workman is sick, who knocks off his pay, Though he can earn at his best only eight bob a day?* Promising Georgo. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squaltora, and farmers arc we, But all of us one in our distrust of thee, Promising Georgo. Who says that tho rich ought to pay taxes groat (The wily old man, tho canny old pate), Then paj a but four notes for his own snug estate ? Promising George. (Chorus.) Then worktren, squittci-s, aud farmers aro we, But all of us one in our distrust of thee, Promising Georgo. The poor working man ! Tho poor workiag man ! We can see through it al', you'll find that we can, On the day of tho poll, all such rubbish, »ad— Promising Georgo. (Chorus.) Then workmen, squatters, and farmers are we, But ail of us one in our distrust of thee, Promising George.
