NEWS BY THE SUEZ MAIL.

[Br TbiißOßaph.] [FEB FEESS AGENCY. J [Via Sydney and Auckland.]] The weather in the British Islands and in Europe generally if the most extracr Jinary and unseasonable that has been experienced for many years past. The crops are everywhere seriously endangered by the continuous rain, and there is no present sign of a change. Everything is very backward, and there is widespread distress in the agricultural districts causing a reduction in the rents of all large estates. Mr Gladstone, replying to a letter from the Warwickshire Tenant Farmers' Association, alluded with favor to the proposal mooted for an inquiry into the distress existing in the agricultural districts. Mr Bright, in replying to a letter of the Scotch tenant farmers on | the same subject, says—" The land question is moving on rapidly. The whole question of primegeniture, entail, and the settlement of the rights of the tenants, is interesting the public. The bad harvests are the cause of present pressure and distress, but I can assure you that here there is a rupidly growing opinion among the leaders of the Liberal party in favor of changes in which the cultivators should have a great interest." Messrs Goulstone and East, accompanied by Captam Barry, who has just returned after a long residence in Australia and New Zealand, a few days ago paid a visit to Arthur Orton and Fortsea Island and the convict prison. Captain' Barry states that he was intimately acquainted with Arthur Orton and Castro, and recognised the prisoner as Tom Castro.
