MISCELLANEOUS ELECTION ITEMS.
[By Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, August 16. Mr Whitaker has resolved to contest Eden against Mr Tole, instead of standing again for Waikato. Mr Whyte, of Hamilton, is mentioned as a candidate for the latter constituency. Mr Robert Graham has announced that ho will oppose Mr O’Rorko for Onohunga. He says in his address that ho will support the political programme enunciated in the Governor's speech. Te Wheoro is now fully determined to resign his Government appointments and accept the invitation uf Waikato to contest the seat lately held by Hone Nahe. TIMARU, August 16. The hearty vote of confidence passed to Mr Wakefield at Temuka last night is a great blow to the Greyites in this district, who have been predicting and circulating all sorts of rumors as to the unlikelihood of his reelection. His election is now certain. He asked the electors to return him as a pronounced anti-Greyite, and they expressed their opinions accordingly. DUNEDIN, August 16. An effort will be at once made, it is stated, to form an Otago Liberal Association, having its head-quarters in Dunedin, with branches all through the Otago district. The matter will be brought forward at the" Garrison Hall meeting on Monday evening, after Mr Stout has addressed the citizens. August 17. Mr Clayton has issued an address to the electors of Tuapoko. He declares himself an advocate of secular education and a supporter of the Government policy. INVERCARGILL, August 17. Mr P. A. Lyon, a farmer, will contest the Riverton seat. He is the fifth in the field for that district.
