CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
A special meeting of the Board of Governors of the College was held at 3pm. yesterday. Present—Mr E. de o Malet (chairman), Drs. Coward and Turnbull, Bev. O. Eraser, Messrs Veel, Webb, Fereday* Tancred, Hamilton, and Lance. The business before the meeting was the consideration of the report of the estates, committee recommending the transfer of a lease held by the Canterbury and Otago Association to the New Zealand and Australian Land Company. The report was as follows : The committee recommends the Board to accept the surrender of the lease of reserve 1574, Canterbury College, to the Canterbury and Otago Association, and to grant a lease of the reserve to the New Zealand and Australian Land Company. Mr Eereday moved—" That the report of the committee be adopted." Mr Inglis seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr Hamilton moved —" That Mr Malet be authorised to affix the seal of the Board to the new lease to be granted." Mr Webb seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Webb said that the Museum committee were of opinion that it would be in the interests of the Museum that the director Dr. von Haast should go to Sydney during the exhibition. It would of course be very desirable that Dr. Haast should be on the spot at the exhibition so as to be enabled to secure any articles he might deem necessary for the Museum. Dr. Haast would be enabled to do this much better by a personal visit than otherwise. Mr Veel pointed out that no other business but that for which the special meeting had been convened could be transacted. The Chairman ruled that this was so, and declared the meeting at an end. A desultory conversation took place, in the course of which Mr Webb mentioned that the cost was anticipated as likely to be about £SO. It was understood that Dr. Haast should proceed to Sydney to the exhibition.
