MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, August 13. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.] Deune and Dxsobdeeey.—An elderly first offender was fined ss, one inebriate was fined 20s, and another ss, together with 5s the cost of a pane of glass broken by him while being arrested. Laecbny. —William Ryan was charged with stealing a pair of boots, value 18s, the property of Thomas Yates. The prisoner pleaded guilty, and there being no previous conviction against him was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, August 13, [Before J. Bcswick, Esq., R.M.] Lunacy fboji Deine.— M. Ryan, on remand from Christchurch, having recovered, was discharged. Civtd Business. — Cuff and Graham v 3. Wnite, claim £lO, for a barometer on board the Nightingale. Mr H. N. Naldcr appeared for the plaintiffs. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. LAHiiiKiNr.su: at Poet.— Before the cases were called this morning in the R.M. Couil, at Lyttelton, the magistrate stated that a letter had been received by him from a resident in Port, complaining of the prevalence of larrikinism. Accompanying his letter, the writer had sent some specimen stones which had been thrown at bis house. The magis(ratc said he hoped, by calling attention to the matter in a public way, those concerned would bo sufficiently warned, for, in the event of any larrikin being brought before the Court, a most severe punishment would be inflicted upon him.
