MASSACRE OF A BOAT’S CREW.
AUCKLAND, August 12. By tho arrival of the brigantine Meg Merriles, news has been received of the massacre of a boat’s crew from the Auckland schooner, Agnes Donald, at Penticost Island. Tho Agnes Donald returned to Levuka from a labor cruise on the 2nd inst., and the captain reported that at Penticost a boat’s crow landed and were attacked on the beach by the Natives. The crew of the boat were under charge of the mate and a young man named George Simpson, well known in Auckland, whence ho came. He fired his revolver, and wounded one of his assailants. He was struck on the head and knocked back on the beach and killed. Three Natives, who composed the crew, were literally hacked to pieces. Simpson’s wife and infant are in Auckland.
