CRICKET.

OBIOKBT NOTES, BY “NOT OUT.” INTEBPBOYINCIAL OBIOKBT MATCHES. The tenth match was played in Christchurch on the 6th and Tth February. This year Otago wai very poorly represented, very few of their good players being able to get away from business, and the consequence was an easy victory for Canterbury. T. Andrew, G. Clark, A. Glen, A, Hellicar, R, Johnson, P. Muir, H. Rhodes, and W. O. Tait were all fresh representatives, who, with the exception of Clark, Glen, Tait, and Bhodea were not good enough for a representative team. Clark was a fine field and steady bat. Glen was the bowler of the team. Tait was a fair change bowler, and Rhodes was a fine longstop. Fuller and Wonter made their first appearance for Canterbury. The former was a good fast bowler, and was very destructive amongst oar opponents. Otago won the toss, and sent Canterbury in, Ootterill and Ollivier appearing to the bowling of Hendley and Glen. Ootterill failed to stop a short one from Hendley, and Pierce joined Ollivier, who was playing a defensive innings. Pierce quickly ran up his score of 10, when a fine catch by Macfarlan caused his retirement. Two for 20. Fowler came, and, as usual,,was not long before he began to score, although Glen was bowling splendidly. At 46 Tait took the ball from Hendley, but the change did not come off. Up to this time Ollivier had only made seven-singles, but was generally opposite Glen, who he contented himself by keeping out of his wickets. Fowler was at last bowled, after playing a good innings for 35, made up by a 4, five 3's, four 2’s, &c. Three for 67. Oorfe did not remain long—an example which Stevens, unfortunately followed. Ollivier now drove Glen for 2 and 1, being his first score for thirteen successive overs, The bowling at this stage of the game was good, but no further wicket fell until after lunch, when Wontner was bowled by Glen for 6. Ollivier was soon afterwards well caught by Johnston at short-leg, after being in not less than two bonis and thirty minutes for 19 runs ; but 1 understand that he was not well daring the match, which perhaps accounts for his slow scoring. Six and seven for 91. The 100 was reached before the next two wickets fell. The last two men, Moore and Fuller, showed about the best cricket of the whole Eleven with the exception of Fowler. The scoring now became faster than at any previous time during the innings, both batsmen bitting freely. The score soon reached 130 when Fuller fell to a good ball from Glen, having made 12 by some spirited play. Moore carried out bis bat for a well-made 14. Although this total was nothing formidable, Otago made but a poor resistance to the bowling of Fuller and Moore. In fact, with the exception of Hellicar, who made three good hits, one of whioh ought to have been caught in the deep field by Sonter, no one reached doable figures. The innings closed for 43, which necessitated a follow-on. The second innings was little more productive. Allen played well for bis score of 21, as did Clark for his total; but the rest came and departed almost on the first opportunity. At the fall of the last wicket the score sheet only showed a result' of 62 runs, which left Canterbury an easy victory by an innings and 35 runs. The fielding of both sides was good, and the bowling of Glen for Otago was much above the average, being at times very difficult, and always well on the wicket. The bowling of Fuller was very successful, instilling fear into the hearts of the Otago players. The following is the score -. —
