PARLIAMENTARY ITEMS.

WELLINGTON, August 10. The House met on Saturday night, only to adjourn to Monday ot noon, the Legislative Council having thrown out the Peace Preservation Bill. There was a good deal to be said against the Bill, but I question the wisdom of refusing to give tho temporary power asked for by the Government, who alone can be supposed to know all the circumstances that may demand it. 'But those who heard the language addressed to the Premier on Friday night, first by the Governor, and then by Sir Wm. Fox, who was followed by Messrs McLean and Wakefield, practically tolling tho Premier of the colony that they could not take his word for the smallest detail connected with any circumstance, and demanding that ho should either put everything in black and white, or eland up and declare it before the whole House, will wonder at no_ result from such a general state of distrust in the head of the Government and the men who consent to share his degradation. He was decidedly over persecuted on Friday night, and more successful than usual in acting the martyr. Those spectators who are not well versed in the history of all the provocations, would certainly conclude that ho was being roughly handled. The prorogation is expected to take place at noon on Monday, and it is stated that tho dissolution will ho on the following day.
