Tho chief deficiency was in tho Customs revenue. For the current year ho estimated the revenue at £1,855,000, and tho expenditure at £2,090,000, leaving an estimated deficit of £245,000, exclusive of the supplementary estimates. It is proposed to coror tho deficiency by a new rate of 6d in the £ on incomes derived from interest, 3d in the £ on capital invested in business, and 3d in tho £ on incomes exceeding £3OO per annum.
