MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, August 6. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M-1 Drunk and Disohdbbly. —A first offender was fined 5* ; two other inebriates were fined 10s each.

Lunacy.—Michael Ryan, charged with lunacy from drink, was remanded to Lyttelton Gaol for medical treatment.

Indbcent Exposube.—Frederick Golding was fined 20s for indecent exposure while in a state of intoxication. Cbublty to Animals.—Charles Bolton and John Somers were each fined 10i for inciting two dogs to fight in the Colombo road on the 3rd instant.

Protection. Jane Finlayaon applied, under the Married Woman’s Protection to Property Act, for protection to her property and earnings and maintenance for her two children, on the ground of her husband, Alexander Finlayson’s, habitual drunkenness. Sergeant Morice stated that the defendant was now in employment, and the case was adjourned for a fortnight.

LYTTELTON. Wednesday, August 6. fßeforo J. Beswick, Esq., R.M.j Refusal op Duty.—Charles Lindsay and Charles Buxton, seamen, belonging to the barque Adelaide, wore presented for refusing duty. The chief officer said he gave the accused in charge on Tuesday night for refusing to heave on the mast. Witness did not wish to have the men punished, as they had been hard at work getting out the cargo all day. They were being paid 12s per week extra for helping to get out the cargo. The men said that had they been asked by the mate in a proper manner, and net spoken to like dogs, they would have obeyed, even though they had knocked off after working hard all day at the cargo. The Bench ordered them to return to their duty.
