CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon. Those present were—Most Rev. the Primate, Drs. Coward and Turnbull, Messrs W. Reeves, F. de c. Malet, H. R. Webb, J. Inglis, W. J. W. Hamilton, J. V. Colborne-Veel. In the absence of tho chairman at the Assembly, Mr F. de o. Malot, acting chairman, prosided. Tho Acting-Chairman said ho believed it waß the wish of the members that no business should bo proceeded with owing to an event which had taken place. [Hear.] It would be necessary in order that a resolution which had been prepared might be moved that standing order No. G should be suspended. The Primate moved —"That standing order No. 6 should be suspended." Dr. Coward seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Tho Primate said that he desired to move a resolution expressive of the sympathy of the membors of that Board with their chairman in his great sorrow. In view of such a bereavement words were but small, but still sympathy under such circumstances would show that they were desirous of testifying, to the best of their ability, their feelings of sorrow at the loss sustained by their chairman. Ho would move—" Tho Board cannot adjourn without expressing their very sincere and earnest condolence with their chairman (Mr W. Montgomery) on the great affliction with which he has just been visited, in the irreparable loss of his excellent and devoted wife." Mr Reeves seconded tho motion.

Mr Inglis said that he could not allow such a resolution to pass without adding a word of deep sympathy. He had had the pleasure of the acquaintance of Mrs Montgomery, and he, as well as other members of the Board, could boar testimony to tho great worth of tho deceased lady. Tho motion was then put and carried. Tho Board then adjourned.
