THEATRE ROYAL.

The favorite sensational drama, “ The Octoroon,” was played on Saturday night at the Theatre Eoyal. Owing to the serious illness of Mr Hosiinq the character of Salem Scudder, which he was announced to play, was undertaken by Mr D’Oreay Ogden, for whom a somewhat needless apology was made by the stage manager, Mr Joyce. Mr Ogden’s performance of the honest, simple-hearted Yankee overseer was an admirable one, and second only in merit, if indeed at all inferior, to his Sandy Morton iu “ The Two Men of Sandy Bar." Mr Wybort Eeeve played the Indian Wahnotee, his make-up being perfectly in keeping with the character, and his pantomimic action picturesque, dignified, and effective. Miss Nelly Q-reeulees sustained the character of the boy Paul in the clever and unassuming manner that usually characterises this young lady’s acting. Mr E. B. Bussell was a first-rato Jaoob McCloskey, and his efforts were recognised by the audiepce at the end of the first act. when he obtained a special call before the curtain. [Miss Ada Lester was a sunny lighthtartod Dora, her acting throughout being ladylike and effective, especially in the auction scene, and Miss Beatrice was an interesting and pathetic Zee, which are the only demands the character makes on the lady who undertakes the role. Mrs Fitz William as Peyton, Mr Lenton as George, Mr J. Q-. Joyce as Sunnysides, Mr Fisher as Uncle Pete, and Mr H. Daniels as Colonel Poindexter, all help to contribute towards the success of the play. The piece itself was well put on the stage, both as to scenery and effects. This evening a dramatic version of the famous novel “ No Name,” by Wilkie Collins, the joint production of that author and Wybert Eeeve will be produced. Mr Eeeve will sustain the the character of Captain Wragge, and Miss Ada Lester Magdalen Vanstone.
