The s.s. Jane Douglas, from Kaikonra, and tho *.B. Ladybird, from Auckland and way ports, arrived this morning. The former is to sail on a return trip, and the latter to Akaroa and Port Ch £ o’. * Wanganui, en ronto to Tjmnrti and Dunedin, arrived from Westport, via Wellington, last night. She will leave this evening. The schooner Wave of Life, from Poloras Sound, arrived last night, timber laden. The American barque Mabel arrived in harbor this morning, from Dunedin, with part original cargo from New York. _ ._ , A barque was signalled from the South when onr messenger left Port. THE MEEOPE. The Merope, of Messrs Shaw, Saville and Co.’s line, arrived this morning after a good passage of oighty-flve days from London. Her passenger list comprises twenty-six in the saloon, eight second cabin, and twenty-flve steerage. Since her last visit hero the Merope has been altered to a barque, SHIP SIGNALLED. A ship was signalled from the South when our express left Port. She is supposed to bo the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Orari, ninety-two days out, from London, with 300 immigrants. She was still a long distance off the Heads when our special express left, at 2 p.m, THE DOCHEA. This morning the barque Dochra, to Mr C. W. Turner, arrived from Glasgow, after a passage {from Greenock) of 101 days. Her cargo is chiefly drain pipes, and she has brought four prize Clydesdale sires, shipped by Mr E. Wilkin. Two of the horses, Bothwoll and Playfair, died of kidney disease on tho passage. On June 25th, n boy, W. Connor, an ordinary seaman, was lost overboard. It was night time, and every effort was made to-recover him, but failed.
