MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

OHEISTCHUECH. Satuedav, July 26. [Before G. L. Melliah, Esq., E.M.] Dbdnk and Disoedeely. —Three drunkards were fined respectively sr, 10s, and 60s. Laeoeny. —William Henry Hudson, remanded from the 22nd inat., was charged with stealing a coat value £2 2i, the property of John D. Harper. Jamea Davidson Harper, a schoolmaster at Gebbie’s Valley, said he was in Christchurch on Saturday, the 19th inst. Slept the previous night in the Zetland Arms, and in the morning left his coat in the commercial room about twelve o’clock. He searched for the coat, but could sot find it. He then gave information to the police. The coat produced was the same, and cost £2 fig, Jane Seabright, daughter of William Seabright, landlord of the Zetland Arms, stated that she liuw the prisoner and the prosecutor. They were beta in the hotel on the morning of the 19th inst. Prisoner bad a drink, and then went into tire commercial room. Moira Cohen, assistant in Cohen's pawnshop in Colombo street, deposed that the prisoner pawned the coat on the 19th inst , between 11 enl 12 o'clock noon. Witness advanced 6s on the coat, which the prisoner said was his own property. Detective Benjamin proved the arrest of the prisoner in Christchurch on the 22nd inst.
