[Via Auckland.] The new maize crop is unusually good; prices are low. There are rumours at Levuka of a serious disturbance amongst the Natives of Nate'i Bay, and several were killed. The cause of the quarrel is not known, and particulars are very meagre. It ii said to have arisen out of the death of Tni Kakapu. The depot for Polyr.esian immigration now contains only some thirty-nine inmates, notwithstanding the large number of laborers which arrived lately. Thousands of these people arrive here naked, half - starved, ignorant savages, with no other ideas or proclivities than than those of murder, rapine, and cannibalism. These are returned to their homes after three years of mild apprenticeship with a small hoard of wealth, and possessed of a thorough acquaintance with some useful trade or occupation, many being axpcrfc ploughmen, axemen, gardeners, blacksmiths, tailors, or storemen.
