WALTZING AGAINST TIME.

(From the “Philadelphia Times.” About a year ago there was a waltzingmatch inaugurated in New York between Professor Cartier and a well kaiwn French professor of dancing. There was considerable interest taken in the match, as it differed somewhat from the ordinary tests of endurance. The French professor retired after spinning r jund for eleven hours, but Cartier continued for an hour longer and achieved the name of having waltzed for the longest time on record, A week ago Professor Julian Carpenter and a number of friends were presmt at the walking-iaa'ch in Concert Hall. Hero it occurred to Professor Carpenter to start a waltzing match to exceed Cartier’s time. Yesterday was named as the time, and accordingly he began at ton o’clock in his dancing academy, at Thirteenth and Ohesnut, and announced that he would waltz for thirteen hours withorrt a moment’s rest. This ho accomplished. At noon dinner was served to him while dancing. He cut the meat while dancing, drank a bottle of porter while dancing, and continued his meal without cessation. Supper was served in the same manner. When in the evening at eleven o’clock it was announced that the thirteen hours were just finiffei the dancing-master continued waltzing for a couple of minutes, and then attempted to stop. His legs refused to obey his will, and continued forming the waltzing steps despite of all the Professor’s exertions. Two men seized him and brought him to the centre of the room. He then seemed weak, though immediately before he was very lively. After the applaue had ceased, the Professor said: “ I was determined to beat Cartier, and I have done it.” Then he was brought into an outer room. The waltz steps used wore the Glide and Berlin. Occasionally ha rested himself by taking a partner, sometimes a lady, and at other times a gentleman. There was a largo audience in the academy.
