DISTRICT COURT.

ASHBURTON. SITTINGS IN BANKRUPTCY. Tuesday, Judy 15. [Before His Honor Judge Ward.] BE JOHN ASHTON. An application from Mr Branson for order of discharge was granted, subject to trustees’ certificate being filed. BE JOHN LLOYD CBAWLBY. An application from Mr Harris for order of discharge was granted. EE EEUBBN BYTE. Application by Mr Branson for order for payment of cists, Mr Harris for trustee. Order granted, subject to taxation. EE THOMAS HICKS.

This was an application made by Mr Branson on behalf of the trustee of the estate of Thomas Hicks, a bankrupt. Mr Brown was called upon to show cause why he should not deliver up a piano to the trustee, ns part of tho estate ot the bankrupt. Mr O’Reilly appeared for the respondent, and called Brown (whom his Honor allowed to give evidence under tho circumstances of the case, Mr O’Reilly having been only instructed in Court, and no necessary affidavits filed), who deposed that he and tho bankrupt had purchased the piano jointly in March, 1878, Witness was then lodging with the bankrupt. Ho afterwords paid off Hicks tho amount paid by him towards tho purchase. The bankrupt, shortly before his filing in May last, informed witness of his intention to file. Witness then removed the piano from the premises of Hicks, who filed immediately afterwards.

Mr Branson then examined the bankrupt, whose evidence did not, in any material point, contradict the evidence of Brown. Mr Branson having addressed the Court, His Honor said he would not call upon Mr O’Reilly, and dismissed tho application. Mr O’Reilly applied for costs, and same was granted. EE E. B. LK BBETON. Mr Branson made application for an order for payment of costs. Adjourned to Chambers. COX AND ANOTHBB Y. SANDBEY AND ANOTHEE. Application for charge of venue. The application was made by Mr O’Reilly on behalf of the solicitors for plaintiff, Messrs Harper and Harper. Adjourned to Chambers.
