SITTINGS AT NISI FJtIUS. Monday, Judy 14. [Before His Honor Mr Justice Johnston.] The civil sittings of the Oor-t opened at 10 a.m. BAXTEE T BAXTBE. This was a common jury case. Tne plaintiff sought to recover from the defendant the l; censes to occupy of 55 acres of land at Ashburton, which he held, or failing that the value of the land. Mr Gresson appeared for the plaintiff. The defendant did not appear, nor was he represented by counsel. Mr Gresson called evidence in support of the claim of his client. The jury returned a verdict on the issues that the plaintiff was entitled to the licenses as claimej, failing which defendant to pay to plaintiff the sum of £6CD, being £l2 per acre for the land. The Court then rose.
