OHKiaxoaußcaj TurraSDAY, Juzy 11. [Before G. X. Hellish, Esq., R.M.] Decnk and Disoedeelt. — James Parr, who was charged . with this offence, was fined ss. Obtaining- Goons unde a False. PebtTENCES.—J. A. Craig was charged with obtaining goods under false pretences by means of a valueless cheque. The police asked that the case be remanded t'll Monday next. On bail being applied for, Sergeant Morico asked that it might be substantial, as tfao prisoner had been twice previously convicted for offences of a like nature. Bail was allowed—two sureties of £IOO each and the prisoner in £2OO. Remanded till July 14th. Mary Halliday was charged with obtaining the sum of £3O under false pretences from Mr Daves, corn dealer, Christchurch. Mr R. D. Thomas’appeared for the prisoner. Sergeant Morice asked that the case be remanded till Monday next, as the priaoner was only arrested at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr Thomas objected, asking that the case be proceeded with at a later hour, or that the husband be accepted as one of the sureties. The Bench —Who is ho ? Mr Thomas—A very respectable man, your Worship, and possessed of sufficient means to justify his acceptance. He is a farmer at Kowai Pass. The Bench—That doesn’t stand for much in these times. Mr Thomas—l would urge your Worship that he be accepted as surety, otherwise, as they are comparatively unknown in Christchurch, it means imprisonment. The Bench refused to take the husband’s bail, but bail was fixed at two sureties of £SO each, and the prisoner in £IOO. Tbanbeee of Hotel License. The license of the Family Hotel, corner of Peterborough and Durham streets, Christchurch, was transferred from John Scott to Mr T. A, W. Parsons.
