N.Z. COUNTRY JOURNAL.
The July number of the "New Zealand Country Journal " fully maintains the reputation of that useful periodical. The information contained in a paper on " Native graeaea" will be found valuable to farmers. Mr J. O. Firth's papei on "Forest culture" is concluded and its main points recapitulated, with the suggestion that they might profitably occupy the attention of the Government. The facts contained in " Out in the Open " on Farmers' Friends will tend to dispel some erroneous impressions as to the distinction between so-called mischievous birds and the really useful members of the feathered race. The continuous paper on " The Clydesdale Horse" is also valuable reading. A good paper, recently read at the Philosophical Institute, on "Mildew and its various formß," ia contributed by Mr Murphy. The extracts are, as usual, well selected, and a long letter on dairy farming is the principal feature in the correspondence, and ia well worthy of careful perusal. Other papers on the "Stud," on the " Forming and management of hedges," "Coursing items," sportiug notes by " Oavesaon," with the usual notes and gleanings, queries and answers, agricultural statistics, reports, &;., make up an unusually interesting number.
