MELBOURNE, July 4.
Tho revenue for the past quarter was £1,072,583, the decrease £7737. - Tho revenue for tho year was £4,525,998, and the increase £40,587. There was received £152,377 from land tax, being an excess on the previous year. Tho Customs showed a decrease of £103,825, and tho railways an increase of £19,000 in expenditure. Tho estimate for tho past year was £4,840,000. The sum of £300,000 will therefore have to be provided for by new duties, probably in Customs, Excise, and stamps. Arrived—Rotorua, from Adelaide. ADELAIDE, July 4. Flour, £4 10s to £4 15s. BRISBANE, July 4. The revenue for the year ended 30th ult. shows a deficit of £178,912. NEW ZEALAND. [PBE PEBSS AGENCY.] The Native Crisis. WELLINGTON, July 5. About eighty Natives in parties, averaging about ten men to each party, will plough simultaneously about the Waingongora today. O wing to the heavy fresh in the river they .were unable to cross yesterday. The eleven prisoners, who came from Hawera yesterday, have not yet been brought before the Magistrate. A further batch of six wi" arrive early this morning, when the whole lot will be committed for trial and shipped by the Patea steamer 'to Wellington. The steamer is detained for that purpose. There are now 112 Maoil prisoners, the Government having received information of nine more last night. Dr. Buffer has been retained for the defence. It is nnderstood that the trial will be postponed till the Ssptember sittings, as the depositions ha e not yet been rc« ived by the Registrar of the Supreme Court. The ploughing party of nine, who started ploughing about two this morning at Waihi, have been arrested. A parly of fifteen started ploughing at Opunake this morning. It is expected that they will be arrested the same as the others. DUNEDIN, July 5. Cummock has been committed for arson and larceny. AUCKLAND, July 5. Several hotelkeepers have been fined for selling liquor on Sundays. The Taupo will bo sold as she is on 22nd of July, with her engines, machinery, steam winches, &e. Mr Hobbs on the Situation.
Messrs Hobbs and Hamlin have addressed their constituents. Mr Hobbs expressed his surprise at the amount of money expended at the Kopua meeting. Ho would forgive the Government if they would give as much to be distributed amongst his constituents. He thought tho sooner Te Whiti was put in the Wbau Lunatic Asylum the better.
[FEOM OTTB own COEHESPONDEHT.] News from the Front. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 5. The Hinemoa arrired from Wellington this morning. She returned with thirty-four White Cliffs ploughmen, who have been committed to Wellington G-aol, and who were yesterday brought by a guard of armed constables, who had. returned with the prisoners. The next movement will be in the direction of Parihaka, which will complete the business.
