The Maori ploughing parties commenced crossing the river this morning to plough up the settlers’ land. Major Roberts at once went with a body of men to arrest them. [PBOM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, July 3, Thirty-three Maori ploughmen, under one of the Chatham Island Natives, were apprehended without resistance yesterday by Major Jnke and a detachment of the Armed Constabulary force at Waihi. The White Cliffs party were lodged at Urenui last night, and will come inf o New Plymouth by special train to-day. This act will free the White Cliffs district of most of its troublesome Maoris. Repairs to the harbor works crane were completed this morning, and the contractor will make another start at the Breakwater tomorrow.
An inquiry was opened this morning into the loss of the Akbar, and is not yet completed. Rain is again falling off and on, but the floods havo all disappeared.

The Governor left at two o’clock. There was no formal leave taking, but the Mayor and a few other gentlemen were at the railway station
TAUEANGA, July 2 The contractor for raising the Taupo finally abandoned the wreck to-day. All the preparations for Ural raising were made, end the work just commenced, when a heavy sea coming in with the tide carried away portion of the gear, rendering all the work useless. The contractor has been most unfortunate in weather, this being tho third time the sea has damaged his gear. WELLINGTON, July 2.

In banco a motion has been made to strike a solicitor off the rolls for refusing to deliver up moneys belonging to a client. At the City Court t!m police stated they would abandon proceedings against the Reids for ily grog selling if they cleared out. It is reported that the VYaikouaiti bridge, which cost over £4OOO, is seriously damaged by tbo floods. The first of ft series of ac'ions against the corporation was concluded yesterday in the District Court. North and Scoullar sued the City Council for £2OO, damages sustained through water entering their cellars during the floods in March last. The jury returned a verdict for defendants. Mr Stout gave notice of appeal. This stops for the present a batch of actions against the corporation. Cummock, the assistant librarian of the Athenaeum, was brought up at the Police Court to-day, charged with incendiarism. The Court was filled. Inspector Mallard conducted the prosecution, and Mr GK E. Hawkins defended the prisoner. Several witnesses were examined, the evidence given being chiefly a recapitulation of that givers at the inquest on the fire. The case was ultimately adjourned till Friday. The Dunedin Presbytery eat to-day. Mr Russell, of Caversham, was appointed Moderator. It war agreed to grant a Presbyterial certificate to the Rev. Mr Blake, who is about to settle in Prebbleton.
The railway system is still out of order. The Invercargill service has been renewed. The train goes as far as Gtrcytowu, and a coach there connects with Waihola, on the other side of the floods.

At ft meeting of the Glutha Presbytery today, a call from the Balclutha congregation to the Bex. Gr. Morice, o£ Hokitika, was numerously signed, and unanimously sustained.
TIMARU, July 2. An inquest was held this afternoon on the body of James McKeown, the sailor belonging to the Beautiful Star, who was drowned on Saturday by the boat capsizing. A verdict of “ Accidental Death ” was returned.
