The ploughmen resumed operations at Courtney’s farm, Tapuae, this morning, and were immediately turned off by a detachment of the Armed Constabulary force. The Maoris wore very sulky, and one threatened to throw a stone at Major Tuke. A reinforcement of fifty men will leave hero by special trsin at noon for Waitara, en route for Whitccliffs. The Maoris threaten to stop tho North road and the Urem” end Waitara volunteers hold themselves in readiness to destroy the barricades, also to put all ploughs unlawfully used on Waitara land into tho river. WELLINGTON, June 28A telegram has been sent by Rewi to the Native Minister, dated Kihi Kihi, June 26th, in which the writer says “ I have received a letter from the Government. lam very glad with the sense of his letter, first consenting to my proposals, secondly bringing us together, thirdly at your stopping all negotiations, and leaving all these things in the hands of the present Government.” The Hinemoa left to-day with a detachment of constabulary for New Plymouth. She was to have left yesterday, but was unavoidably detained.
