[reuter’s telegrams.] SYDNEY, June 26. A Bill lias been introduced in the Legislative Council which provides for the more effectual punishment of certain crimes whore the sentence of death is commuted. MELBOURNE, June 25. The weights for the New Zealand horses in the Melbourne Cup are;— Templeton, Bst. Sib.; Lo Loup, Bst. 41b.; Fishhook, Set. 21b. Mr Blackett, the Conservative candidate, was elected for Fitzroy by a majority of 82. The election for a member of the Legislative Assembly for Fitzroy takes place to-day. A close contest is expected. Sailed —Ringarooma, to-day.
