PUBLIC MEETING AT LINCOLN.

A meeting of the ratepayers at Lincoln was held at SliuV Hotel, on Monday evening, to consider the desirability of fencing in and planting the river roaorve. The Rev. A. P. O'Callaghan, chairman of the Springs Road Board, presided, and stated that the Selwyn County Council had granted the sum of £7O for recreation purposes to the Springston District. The Road Board had expressed its willingness to supplement the amount by a further grant of £7O for improving the river reserve at Lincoln if the inhabitants were desirous of the work being done. There was a large gathering of ratepayers present who appeared interested in seeing the work done, and who freely discussed the proposition with jreference to the preservation of water rights, &a. The following resolutions were carried unanimously :—"That tho ratepayers of Lincoln township desire to have the river reserve fenced in ar,d planted." " That the Road Board b* respectfully requested to provide fnndß to carry out tho above work." " That jjjeesra Moyenberg, Brown, Woli'e, Ross, and

Doherty be constituted trustees for the protection of the work when completed." " That the kind of fence to be erected be loft to the decision of the Board." It was suggested by the chairman, and ultimately agreed to, that before the fencing is commenced the trustees should decide what kind of right-of-way, and where, should bo left for the convenience of those residents whose property is adjacent to the river. The desirability of obtaining trout to be placed in the river was also fully discussed, and it was resolved unanimously—- " That an application be made, through the chairman, to the Acclimatisation Society for a grant of trout for the Lincoln river. The meeting was brought to a close by the usual vote of thanks to the chairman.
