If the present breakwater contract is not com* pleted within four-and-a-half months, as above specified, the Board to pay interest at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum from the expiration of that period, until the said contract is completed, on such amount as may bo due to Mr Anderson, Mr Auderson to maintain tho crane until the above term of four and half months has expired. On completion of the present breakwater contract tho amount to be paid to Mr Anderson, and all disputed questions, it any, to be submitted to arbitration and. bo made a rule of tho Supreme Court." A man named Brown, in the employ o£ Jonas, Hart, and Wildie, was thrown from his horse this evening, and received serious injuries.

A fire occurred en the premises of Lewis, a gardener, at Maori Hill, last night, by which, tho hothouse containing a quantity of valuable plants was destroyed, the loss being estimated at £IOO. Mr Stout has intimated that he cannot alter his previous determination to retire from the Assembly. Yesterday, at Milton, an old man named Henry Longstaff, fell into a drain whilst carrying a sack of flour. Up to a late hour last night he lay in a critical condition. INVERCARGILL, Jvue 24. Patrick and James McNamara were this morning brought up at the Police Court on remand, charged with feloniously and maliciously killing the entire horse, Young Lofty. Inspector Fox applied for a further remand on the ground that an important witness was not yet forthcoming. The request was acceded to. A reward is offered for information that may lead to the arrest of tho witness in question. The installation banquet of the Southern Croas Lodge, E.G., was held this evening, and was Humerougly attended. Bro. C. E. Reade was installed as W.M., and he appointed the various other officers.
