Leo XIII, has assigned the sum of 10,000 f. annually towards completing the restoration of the basilica of San Lorenzo in Damaso commenced by Pius IX. Hie Holiness has also made a donation of 2000 f. to the Sabine Seminary of Megliano.; Dr. Brousse, editor of the suppressed "Avant Garde,” was tried at Keuchatel and convicted of having incited the murder of monerchs and magistrates of neighboring States. On the charge of inciting to insurrection ho was acquitted, but the other charges being found proven, ho wae sentenced to two months’ imprisonment and ten years’ banishment. '
