CANTERBURY COURSING CLUB.

SECOND EDITION

SECOND MEETING-. The second meeting in connection with the Canterbury Coursing Club took place this morning, commencing at ten o'clock. Fortunately the morning broke fine, and the weather greatly improved as the day adyanced. A start was made in the South Park at tha hour mentioned. The attendance of the public was small, but capital order was maintained, in that they kept out of tho way of the beaters, and theroby gave the sport a better chance. Tho hares were light, poor, and scarce, making the courses rather slow. Mr H. Y. Anssn acted' as slip; Mr Judge, beater ; and the stewards were the same as before. Up to the hour cf going to press the following events came off : MAIDEN TUPPY STAKES. Mr Beard's Belle of the Isle beat Mr Laird's Chandos. Mr Duncan's Rob Enaclh beat Mr Walker's Reflection. Mr Ohaiteris' Black Cloud beit Mr Porter's Duchess. Mr Hill's Chang beat Mr Baird's Alpha. The Flirt and Cigarette ran an undecided. On being again put in the slips, Cigarette showed good pace, but at the height of her pace, she got a tremendous cropper, and hurt herself, which decided her chance, and made it easy for Flirt to win. Tho last course for tho Puppy Stakes was between Markham and Kate. It was a complete certainty, for the dog led away and never gave tho slut a chance. Mr Ranger's Markham beat Mr Judge's Kate. An adjournment was then mado for lunch, after which tho North Park was tried. CHRISTCHUKCH STAKKS. Mr E. Jerome's St. Bees beat Mr Porter's La Belle. Mr McCoanell's Sweep beat Mr Hill's Surplice. Sweep is an imported Victorian dog of grand build, but somewhat out of condition, only liaving been in his owner's kennel a fortnight. It was considered the most exciting course of the day, as although Sweep won, Surplice mado the work very warm for him, and the event was a close one. Mr Boper'a Honeymoon beat Mr Bull's Bow Bells.
