LICENSING COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, June 17. [Before G. L. Melb'sh, Esq , Chairman of the Licensing Commissioners; G. L. Lee, Esq., J.P.; and H. J. Tancred, Eeq , J.P., Commissioners.] BEES AND WINE LICKSNE. Christian Klingonstsin appliei for the renewal of hk w’no and boor license at the Provincial Larder, Cashel street. The application was opposed by the police, on the ground that applicant had a front bar on the premises, contrary to the Act. The case had been adjourned for a fortnight, to give Klingenstein an opportunity of ron ovingth is, but he had not done so. Mr Thomas appeared for the applicant, and pointed out that in other places in Christchurch the same thing existed. Tho bar in question was now only used as a counter, to keep bottles, & 3., on» He was perfectly willing to divide it off from the rest of the premises, or even to turn it into a confectioner’s shop. Mr Mellisb said there could be no doubt that the place had been used as a public bar. It was quite a farce to have a few small pieces of cheese broken, biscuits, &c., and call that refreshments. He had been doing a bar trade there, just the same as they had been doing at tho White Hart and other places. Mr Lee remarked that the place ought to be at the other end of the dining-room. Ultimately it was resolved that the refreshment bar must be removed to the back of the promises, as suggested, and the license was granted subject to this being done.
